Ryan Notch

Ryan Notch grew up in Centralia, Pennsylvania, a town evacuated by the Federal government due to a coal mine fire burning beneath it since 1962.  The only town in America ever to have its zip code revoked.  During the day he wanders the empty streets and houses as if in a daze, looking for something he lost but can't remember where or what it was.  At night he writes his horror stories by lying down next to a burning fissure along main street and placing his ear to the ground, transcribing what he hears coming up from below. 

 

That's one story anyway....

There's another story about him though, maybe just as true. Of a kid growing up in a shitty neighborhood in North Denver, who learned how to act normal from a TV, fed by light rays on the dreams of others. A kid who got a brain disease at twelve that left him never able to truly rest, yet inundated by REM sleep. Left him with more time in dreams than awake.  And this kid got really, really good at making all those dreams appear in the real world through his art.
